Caprylyl Glycol

Caprylyl glycol (also known as octane-1,2-diol) is a multi-functional cosmetic ingredient that works as an emollient, skin conditioning agent, and preservative booster. It gives the skin a soft, smooth feel and enhances the antimicrobial effectiveness of other preservatives such as phenoxyethanol. The combination of caprylyl glycol and phenoxyethanol is marketed as Optiphen.
