Hectorite

Hectorite is a naturally occurring smectite clay mineral (a magnesium lithium silicate) named after Hector, California, where it was first identified. In cosmetics it serves primarily as a viscosity-controlling agent and oil absorbent, helping to thicken formulations, suspend pigments, and provide a mattifying effect. It is widely used in foundations, powders, eyeliners, masks, and dry shampoos.
