Formula IngredientAmino AcidINCI: Histidine
Histidine is a semi-essential amino acid that occurs naturally in the skin as part of the Natural Moisturising Factor (NMF). It functions as a humectant and skin-conditioning agent, drawing moisture into the stratum corneum. In the skin, histidine is a precursor to urocanic acid, which contributes to UV protection and barrier function, and it plays a role in regulating immune defence and inflammatory processes.

Histidine is a skin-identical amino acid with an excellent safety profile. It is non-irritating at cosmetic concentrations. No EU CosIng Annex II or III restrictions apply. The CIR (Cosmetic Ingredient Review) panel has assessed amino acids including histidine as safe for cosmetic use.
Histidine does not increase photosensitivity. Its metabolite urocanic acid is naturally produced in skin and has some UV-absorbing properties, but histidine itself does not sensitise skin to sunlight.
Histidine is a naturally occurring amino acid found in the body and in food. It is widely considered safe during pregnancy. No reproductive or developmental concerns have been identified for topical cosmetic use.
