Formula IngredientEmollientINCI: Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride
Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride is a lightweight, clear, odourless oil derived from coconut oil and glycerin. It is an ester formed from glycerol and a blend of caprylic (C8) and capric (C10) fatty acids, which gives it a non-greasy, fast-absorbing texture. It functions primarily as an emollient and skin-conditioning agent, forming a breathable occlusive layer on the skin surface that helps reduce transepidermal water loss.

Widely considered one of the most well-tolerated cosmetic emollients. The CIR Expert Panel concluded it is safe as used in cosmetics (reaffirmed 2003). Rare allergic reactions may occur in individuals sensitive to coconut or palm oil derivatives — patch testing is recommended for those with known tree nut allergies. No EU Annex II or III restrictions apply.
Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride does not increase photosensitivity. No special sun protection measures are required solely due to this ingredient.
Considered safe for topical use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The CIR Expert Panel assessed 51 triglycerides, including this ingredient, as safe at present concentrations of use. Animal studies showed no teratogenic effects (tricaprylin was not teratogenic in mice or rats when administered orally). No reproductive toxicity concerns have been identified at cosmetic use levels.
